insecticide-resistant mosquito Culex quinquefasciatus

چکیده
Resistance to organophosphates in Culex mosquitoes is typically associated with increased activity of non-specific esterases. The commonest phenotype involves two elevated esterases, A2 and B2, while some strains have elevation of esterase B1 alone. Overexpression of the two B esterase electromorphs is due to gene amplification. Full-length cDNAs coding for amplified esterase B genes from a resistant Cuban strain (MRES, with amplified Bi esterase) and a Sri Lankan strain (PelRR, with amplified B2 esterase) of C. quinquefasciatus have been sequenced. In addition, a partial-length cDNA coding for a B esterase from an insecticide-susceptible Sri Lankan strain (PelSS) has been sequenced. All the nucleotide sequences and the inferred amino acid sequences show a high level of identity (> 95 % at the

Larvicidal potential of Cyathea species against Culex quinquefasciatus
Resistance to insecticides has persuaded researchers to find new methods to control Culex quinquefasciatus proliferation. Plants may be a source of alternative agents for mosquito control due to ever-growing insecticide resistance in mosquito vectors and environmental imbalance caused by synthetic insecticides. The present study was intended to study the larvicidal activity of selected Cyathea ...
متن کاملMultiple mutations and mutation combinations in the sodium channel of permethrin resistant mosquitoes, Culex quinquefasciatus
A previous study identified 3 nonsynonymous and 6 synonymous mutations in the entire mosquito sodium channel of Culex quinquefasciatus, the prevalence of which were strongly correlated with levels of resistance and increased dramatically following insecticide selection. However, it is unclear whether this is unique to this specific resistant population or is a common mechanism in field mosquito...
متن کاملAdulticidal & larvicidal efficacy of three neonicotinoids against insecticide susceptible & resistant mosquito strains.
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Due to ever growing insecticide resistance in mosquitoes to commonly used insecticides in many parts of the globe, there is always a need for introduction of new insecticides for the control of resistant vector mosquitoes. In this study, larvicidal and adulticidal efficacies of three neonicotinoids (imidacloprid, thiacloprid and thiamethoxam) were tested against resistan...
متن کاملRole of G-protein-coupled Receptor-related Genes in Insecticide Resistance of the Mosquito, Culex quinquefasciatus
G-protein-coupled receptors regulate signal transduction pathways and play diverse and pivotal roles in the physiology of insects, however, the precise function of GPCRs in insecticide resistance remains unclear. Using quantitative RT-PCR and functional genomic methods, we, for the first time, explored the function of GPCRs and GPCR-related genes in insecticide resistance of mosquitoes, Culex q...
متن کاملMultiple Cytochrome P450 Genes: Their Constitutive Overexpression and Permethrin Induction in Insecticide Resistant Mosquitoes, Culex quinquefasciatus
Four cytochrome P450 cDNAs, CYP6AA7, CYP9J40, CYP9J34, and CYP9M10, were isolated from mosquitoes, Culex quinquefasciatus. The P450 gene expression and induction by permethrin were compared for three different mosquito populations bearing different resistance phenotypes, ranging from susceptible (S-Lab), through intermediate (HAmCq(G0), the field parental population) to highly resistant (HAmCq(...
